Its strategic location, a stone’s throw away from Galicia and Asturias, has favored the settlement of many civilizations. The Romans arrived with their usual politics of “vini, vidi, vincit” but they met in El Bierzo fertile lands, full of riches perfect to feed its vast empire.

Many are the adjectives that describe El Bierzo, but one that has been present for centuries is its great religion and mysticism. The legends are everywhere around resulting in the adoration of saints from the top of the mountains to the deep of the valleys. El Camino de Santiago, in its passage through El Bierzo, is making a backbone around which villages and towns have grown.
El Bierzo can be discovered through trekking or by horses or bicycles. Fishing and hunting sports are widespread throughout the county. Other alternatives are currently growing in the area as sailing, canoeing and paragliding in la Sierra de Gistredo.
