The winemaking process starts at the vines, this is as we understand it in “Bodega del Abad”, therefore we have conducted an intensive process of selection of vineyards.

We have 35 hectares (86,49 acres) of vineyards, located in the most privileged areas in El Bierzo, the upper zone in Valtuille de Arriba and Villafranca del Bierzo.

The vineyards are located in areas of steep slope with altitude and soil composed of a mixture of fine elements, quartzite and slates.

The vineyard itself is filled up mostly by the varietal Mencia, with a significant representation of white grape vines of the varietal Godello.

Also a selection is made of the best vineyards from wine growers in the area; we monitor all work being done from winter to harvest in autumn.

During summer we make a tight control of the grape maturation, which lets us set the right time to harvest, when grapes are in the best moment to begin the winemaking process.
