This week, we had the honor of welcoming Beth Willard, a renowned wine critic and collaborator of the prestigious Master of Wine Tim Atkin, to Bodega del Abad. Her visit is part of a tour she is taking through various wine-growing regions of Spain in anticipation of the upcoming report that Atkin will publish on the country’s wines.
During her stay at our facilities, we were able to show her firsthand the work we do every day in our winery in El Bierzo, a land that we deeply love and consider key within the current Spanish wine sector. We shared with her our history, philosophy, and commitment to native varieties, such as Mencía and Godello, which are an essential part of our identity.
The day began with a tour of our vineyards, and we presented her with different references from our range of wines, including some old vintages, special editions, and new products yet to be released. We were very pleased to see her enthusiasm for the freshness, structure, and personality of our wines, and especially her assessment of our ability to express the character of the terroir.
For us, Beth Willard’s choice to visit Bodega del Abad is a recognition of the silent but constant work that we have been doing for years. Her opinion is highly valued internationally and is part of one of the most influential reports in the world of wine.
